Mmmmm....Doughnuts!

We found out that Ada loves doughnuts (especially if they have chocolate on them!). She took her milk and wiggled her way onto one of the kitchen table chairs and grabbed hold of a doughnut. After she took a bite she was hooked and she wouldn't let it go or put it down! Doesn't she look so guilty, happy, but yet still so cute?

Why buy toys?

Ada and Benjamin love sitting in boxes, totes, and tubs! They will spend a long time just sitting in them and playing. They especially love it if we push them around but they are just as happy just sitting in them. They will play all kinds of games and make up all kinds of stories. They are so creative! If only I were so young and flexible!

Train Track Time

Benjamin and Ada enjoy playing train tracks (Geo Traxx). They play really well together except when Ada's cute little butt (yep, that's what Benjamin calls it) sits on his train track and he can't get the train to loop around the tracks. Ada likes playing inside the track while Benjamin enjoys racing around the outside of the track. These train tracks have been through everything! T-Rex, teddy bears, and dollies have all come to visit. These two enjoy knocking their visitors off the tracks. Santa gave Benjamin the elevated tracks for Christmas. They are pretty cool and make the train go so fast. Now only if he had a remote controlled train! Maybe next Christmas Santa can bring that if these two are still into playing train tracks! These trains and tracks are two years old already (except the elevated tracks) and have seen countless hours of play and have handled are rough and tough children just fine! Dave and I love watching these two kiddos play together and interact with one another. They are so sweet and so much fun! Plus they are so full of energy that they wear us out!

Making a dairy man proud!!

Has Anyone Seen Benjamin and Ada?

Benjamin and Ada enjoy playing tricks and games on us (Dave & I). Lately, there favorite is to run and hide (their version of hide and seek) from us. Dave caught these two crawling and hiding underneath Benjamin's bed. Ada didn't have any fears or problems snuggling underneath the bed. At first Benjamin didn't know what to think about somebody else being underneath his bed with him but now we hear him say, "come on Ada, let's go hide". She gets this big smile on her face and away she goes after him. These two are certainly two peas in a pod!

Ada's Scarf

As promised, here is Ada's scarf. I really love the colors in this scarf and it matched Ada's jacket wonderfully. It's too bad that the zipper broke and would have cost over $ 20 to get it fixed. We decided we could go with just the snaps and no zipper but then the jacket got a hole in it and so we decided to retire her jacket. It's had its use I am sure of it because I picked the jacket up at a rummage sale. Oh, well. We really are not out that much money. Unfortunately, this scarf no longer matches her new jacket but for the time being she will have to be a mismatched child!

As for the scarf, I added some fringe to it. Talk about time consuming cutting all that yarn into small pieces and then looping it through. I do think that the fringe adds a lot to the scarf though. This yarn/scarf was a lot more difficult for me to work with as it was very soft and delicate compared to the Red Heart yarn that I used for Benjamin's scarf. The more I crochet the more I like it and think that I am becoming addicted. I just need to learn how to read a pattern, etc. and I will be set! Don't you love my cooperative model above? She was the only one to sit still enough for me to put the scarf on and take a picture.

So Sweet...

Benjamin and Ada made the sweetest Valentine's cards for us at Dani's. We are so lucky to have her! She is so nice, caring, and creative--plus the kids love her and their friends. Anyhow, these cards are just so sweet that when I opened them I started to cry.

This is what I found inside mine:
"Mom, I've got some friends
Of each and every kind,
But a better friend than my mom
I'll never, ever find!"

This is what Dave found inside his:
"Dad, you are my favorite man
And I sure want you to know,
I'll always respect and love you, Dad
No matter how big I grow."

Isn't that the sweetest thing? The hearts on the cover of the cards were made with their hand prints.

Rambling

This week has been a long, hard week for me. I was looking forward to having a 3 day weekend but Thursday our office received some devastating news. A former Turner County 4-Her was killed in a grain bin accident. He was only 23. He was working with his dad when the accident happened. There was a lot of wet corn that went into the bins this past fall and I fear that there may be more accidents to come. My heart and condolences goes out to the Graber Family. I cannot begin to imagine the pain and suffering that they are going through.

Since this is my personal blog and as a private citizen I have the right to free speech I need to get a few things off my chest. Has anyone paid any attention to the budget cuts that Governor Rounds has presented? Our youth will be impacted severely from cutting the arts to the SD State Fair. Also, there is a bill/proposal to tax non-profit groups (political and religious groups are exempt) for dues, etc. Also, the budget for Extension is looking to get cut by $ 1 million dollars. For Extension this will mean eliminating 15 positions and cutting travel. If anyone feels compelled to do something please contact your legislators or those on the joint appropriations committee. They need to hear why these programs or others listed in the budget cuts are near and dear to your heart. The more heart-felt, tear jerking the better. I understand that we are in tough economic times but cutting programs that focus on our youth is not the answer!

What I have been up to...

The need to create and do something crafty got the better of me the last couple of weeks (ever since that last cold snap) so I decided that I wanted to try crocheting. I bought a skein of yarn and a crochet hook and starting looking things up on-line to see what I needed to do. I figured out how to do a single crochet and apparently I do a decorative pattern. I only take one stitch versus doing the traditional single crochet by taking up both stitches. Benjamin was pretty excited about his scarf until Dave told him that boys don't wear scarves. So now he refuses to wear it outside. He will wear it inside, though, so I think he is forgetting what daddy told him. Thanks a lot daddy!
I want to learn how to make an afghan but I will have to wait and rely on my mother-in-law's help. I am not quite sure how you add additional colors when you want to change them up. I have my ideas but not quite sure if that is accurate. I had a good time making this scarf. I have decided that crocheting is very relaxing for me and that seeing a finished project is very motivating! I am working on a scarf for Ada too and I hope to have it done next week.

Fun in the Snow

Ada has been so stir crazy that a day outside was just what this mommy recommended and what this little girl needed! She was in such a bad mood when we first got outside that all she did was lay down and pout. She started to come around when she realized that mommy was not going to give in. By the end of our time outside she was having a great time and did not want to come in!! Unlike, Benjamin, Ada is not a huge fan of sledding. We keep working on it because she loves going for wagon and stroller rides so I think she will grow to love going for a sled ride. Mommy can't get over how easy it is to pull a sled versus pull a wagon! I enjoy being outside as much as possible so playing in the snow was just what we needed!

Sledding and Playing in the Snow

Benjamin loves playing outside in the snow! He likes to make and see his foot prints in fresh snow. You can often find him climb up on top of snow drifts and piles of snow looking for animals to rescue (did I mention that he also loves Diego?). Uncle Corey and Danielle gave Benjamin and Ada each a sled for Christmas and Benjamin loves it/them! He is definitely an active kid and has been so stir crazy with the terrible cold weather that we had for awhile. Whenever, the temperature is nice or at least bearable you will find us outside. Benjamin enjoys playing outside and I enjoy the workout!
