Just a few things have occurred....

Things have been crazy around here!  I can't believe how fast time is going by and how much we have been through these past years.  A few highlights from 2102.

In 2012, Benjamin started 1st Grade and had Ms. Henry as his teacher.  Benjamin was pretty lucky.  Between Dave and I he was able to get a ride to school each morning as his overprotective mother thought it was too far for him to walk to the bus stop without sidewalks.

While, Ada was in Preschool and Mrs. Hoffer was her teacher.  We are pretty lucky that the preschool teacher comes and picks her up for preschool.  If Mrs. Hoffer wouldn't do this I don't know if she would have been able to go to preschool.

Dave, Uncle Corey, Benjamin, and Ada were able to do a little fishing which they loved (Kids more than Dave)!

A few months after Cora was born Dave's mom was diagnosed with lung cancer.  We made many visits to the hospital here in SD and Dave went to Arizona a couple of times to be with his mom and family.  She fought hard but lost her battle in January 2013.  She was a very giving individual and continued that even into death as she donated her body to science.  It was a rough year of "firsts" without his mom.  It wasn't easy and we have accepted that she is no longer with us but the emotions are still pretty raw.

We celebrated Cora's Baptism on October 14, 2012 at St. George Catholic Church.  Cora's Godparents are my brother Corey and Dave's sister Connie.  Father David Desmond officiated.  We had a great day and were able to have our Baptism lunch after the ceremony at the church as our apartment would not have held every one!  Cora's Baptism was held before we broke ground for our "new house".  I made a simple cake for the celebration.  Welcome to Christ sweet, sweet child!

Halloween 2012 brought these little monsters!

Left to right, Ada was a witch, Cora was a kitten, Benjamin was a dinosaur, and Gunnar was a crocodile (watch out if you call him an alligator!).

That same fall of 2012 we started to build our new house.  We started out with this little lot of land:

And started to create the much needed space that we needed and desired!  Since we were living in an apartment we would take weekly and sometimes even daily trips out to see the "new house" which would give us strength and motivation to go back to the apartment knowing that this was just a temporary situation for us.  But how we were so excited for all that new space!!

Building our house was a lesson in compromising with one another.  Dave was concerned about the cost/price of things while I was told to pick out what I liked.  It was not my fault these stores didn't have price tags hanging on every item!  For whatever reason I was always drawn to the more expensive items.  A suggestion for those who would like to build or do a serious remodel project: Make sure and get plenty of sleep (if you have a newborn or young children) before you make decisions or meet with your contractor to discuss important things/steps needed in your building project as lack of sleep will hinder your decision making process or you will make decisions you don't remember making!

Happy 4th of July!

Our little firecrackers!!  They continue to crack us up!!  This is the way they really are when you break out the camera.  Benjamin is all about egging Gunnar on to do a "cheesy" picture and Ada is into posing for the camera.  It is really hard to catch a "natural" Ada photo because if she even senses that you have the camera she will stop what she is doing and strike a pose.

Getting Ready for Preschool...

Benjamin was pretty excited about getting his preschool supplies ready for preschool. We took this picture outside of Mrs. Hofer's house right before his preschool open house. I don't know if you notice that big smile of his or not but man does he love going to "school".

Pool Time...

For the last year Ada has not wanted anything to do with going swimming whether it is an inside pool or an outside one or a big one or a small one. She just refuses to go swimming. Well, for whatever reason she decided to go on in on her own--and she absolutely loved it! Benjamin, on the other hand, is part fish as he has always loved going swimming!

Rub a Dub Dub...

my three kiddos in the tub! Too precious!! I love their smiles.

Decorated Cupcakes...

Benjamin and Ada were excited to decorate cupcakes to take to the Turner County Fair and exhibit in open class. Benjamin made clown cupcakes while Ada made hungry hungry caterpillar cupcakes. It was fun helping these two decorate their cupcakes but I also enjoyed walking around the exhibit building with Benjamin and Ada looking for their cupcakes. They were pretty proud of them. Aren't they budding cake decorators?

Turner County Fair 2010

Since I work as an Extension Educator down in Turner County and we have the best County Fair in the State, each year Dave brings the kiddos down for some family fun. Ada really broke out of her shell this year and was all about the rides. Dave had planned on just having a daddy and Benjamin day for rides but it turned out that he had a Benjamin and Ada day for rides instead! Ada would do ride after ride and never seemed to tire of them. The only one that she was a little apprehensive about was the fun house where she would get scared about halfway through and then either Dave or I would have to go in and rescue her. Depending on who was running the slide determined whether or not she got to go as she was right on the bubble for height. We have never seen Ada with such a big smile on her face as she did while going on all the rides! Benjamin was pretty excited about having his little sister to go on rides with. Gunnar went to Dani's that day so he wouldn't have to deal with all the people and the temperature. He was missing his big brother and big sister as he was lost without them. But don't worry Gunnar came the other days of the fair. Of course they were the days that Dave left the camera at home. You will find my kids at one of two places at the Turner County Fair; they will either be at Old MacDonald's Farm or at carnival. Don't worry, Dave and/or I are always with them. It never seems to amaze me what Benjamin soaks up at the Fair and how much he enjoys coming! We had a great time and enjoyed eating at the many different food stands. Oh, how I love those pork loin sandwiches! If you have never been to the Turner County Fair I encourage you to do so! Enjoy....

H is for Horse...

Benjamin and Ada learned about horses at the Outdoor Campus. They even got to ride a horse. Although they were not impressed that it was not a real horse. Ada tells me that when she is in 4-H she wants to have a horse. I told her, "we will see". You see, I am not really the horse mother type. In fact, I am not that type at all. She has a better chance of getting a puppy insted.

What do you think?

Backseat Drivers...

Benjamin and Ada were quite the backseat drivers on our trip. Benjamin enjoys looking at a map and telling us where to go. Ada loves to repeat what the GPS tells us (thank you Grandma and Grandpa for letting us borrow it). You can't help but laugh at these two. I knew the day would come that they would be backseat drivers but I didn't realize it would start so early!

Omaha Children's Museum...

Our trip to Omaha is not complete without a trip to the Children's Museum. Benjamin and Ada absolutely love it there! They are always busy little bees running from station to station but the one area that they both spend a lot of time in is the corn field picking corn. Gunnar even got in on the Children's Museum action. We had a great time and the kids were tuckered out!
